West Point’s WINE NOT scores in allowance company at Belmont

Four year old First Dude gelding WINE NOT tackled a tough non-winners of three allowance race at Belmont going  1 1/16 on the dirt. He moved through the field about 1/2 mile out with a rival and then edged between horses to get up for a game win by a neck. The George Weaver trainee  is closing on $200,000 in earnings.

COURT SAVVY wins his third for West Point

COURT SAVVY made it two in a row for owner West Point Thoroughbreds. He zipped right out of the gate and won wire to wire going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Woodbine.  He is trained by  Ralph J Biamonte and was bred in KY by  Larry Jutte & Quetta Jutte.

Two year old PURE PRAISE sold by Kirkwood wins 2nd time out

Kirkwood prepared and sold, PURE PRAISE ( Congrats) zipped out of the gate at Churchill  and led through an opening quarter in :22 and change. She was challenged at the top of the stretch, but kept fighting on the inside to score by a length in her second start. She was a $42,000 FT October yearling purchase and brought  $110,000 as a 2 year old at OBSMAR. She has given her owner Bernard G. Schaeffer s a quick return on his purchase.

DEFIANT HONOR wins for Phillips Racing at Belmont

Kirkwood Stables and Phillips Racing are having an exciting June. MANITOULIN won at Belmont in allowance company earlier in the month and today DEFIANT HONOR (Speightstown), a half-sister to Taqarub (Aldebaran), GSW, $256,962; and a full-sister to the late Recepta, GSW & MGISP, $696,700, pressed the pace and then cleared to score quite easily at Belmont – her second win in 4 starts. She broke her maiden last fall in NY, then shipped to California where she ran second in the Jimmy Durante Stakes – Gr. 3 and added graded black-type to her pedigree. With this facile win first race back at 3, she announced that she was very ready to get n her sophomore campaign underway. Trained by James Toner, she has already earned over $111,000.

Defiant Honor is out of a winning daughter of Grade III victress Wings of Grace (Key to the Mint), the dam of Darby Dan’s outstanding 1999 champion grass mare Soaring Softly (Kris S.) and GISW Plenty of Grace (Roberto). Further down the page is Wings of Grace’s half-sister Battle Creek Girl (His Majesty), the dam of 15 winners from 18 to make the races, including Sovereign Award winner Wavering Girl (Wavering Monarch); GSWs Tricky Creek (Clever Trick), Parade Ground (Kingmabo), Parade Leader (Kingmambo) and Speed Dialer (Phone Trick); and SW & MGSP Everhope (Danzig). Honor Bestowed is the dam of Defiant Honor’s 2-year-old full-sister Honored Promise, a yearling colt by Curlin and a Speightstown colt foaled Mar. 30.

 

FULL OF JOY graduates 2nd time out

3 year old  FULL OF JOY (Kitten’s Joy) ran last  early, but rallied  to get up by a nose in a blanket finish.  Full of Joy is the first foal out of an unraced half-sister to Darby Dan’s MGISW Wonder Again (Silver Again). Her year-younger half-brother Ten City (Run Away and Hide) was named a “TDN Rising Star” for a seven-length debut romp at Keeneland Apr. 19.  Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $20,400. FULL OF JOY is owned by Phillips Racing Partnership & Kip & George Elser and was bred byPhillips Racing Partnership & Kenneth L. & Sarah K. Ramsey (KY). She is trained by Thomas F. Proctor.

MANITOULIN takes allowance race at Belmont – on the Belmont Stakes Card

MANITOULIN (Awesome Again–Soaring Softly ) scored in 2X allowance company coming wide to swing around the field and score going 1 1/8 on the turf. . Manitoulin is a half to Much Rejoicing (Distorted Humor), SW, $160,457. His dam, Soaring Softly  captured the GI Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf in 1999 en route to Eclipse honors that year.
Lifetime Record: 12-3-2-1, $195,800.

COAL FRONT romps to make it 2 for 2

Prepared and sold by Kirkwood Stables for $575,000. COAL FRONT (Stay Thirsty) was named a TDN  “Rising Star” after romping to a 6 1/2 length maiden win at Keeneland.  Back again on the 3 day Belmont Festival card, he  broke well and pressed the pace before sailing past the field to remain 2 for 2 and win by 2 3/4-lengths.  He is owned by Robert V. LaPenta, was bred by Michael Edward Connelly and is trained by Todd A. Pletcher.

On the same day, SAINT IGNATIOUS (Macho Uno) broke his maiden at Penn National in a MSW going 6 furlongs. He is owned by Robert D Bone

 

SOUND THE HORNS wins another

SOUND THE HORNS (Include) once again overcame a bump at the start, then settled mid pack, moved wide, dueled and drew off to win his first allowance condition by over 2 lengths.  He had broken his maiden in a similar fashion by more than 5 lengths. He has won 2 and has a second in 4 starts. He is owned by West Point Thoroughbreds and trained by Graham Motion. Watch for this one!
