Multiple Graded Stakes placed Ulanbator, second in last June’s G3 Matt Winn S. at Churchill and third in the following month’s G3 Dwyer S. at Belmont, settled in a perfect spot along the rail, inching closer as they turned for home with three dueling for the lead. From his position between foes, Ulanbator gamely got his nose on the wire to win. Ulanbator is under consideration for the GI Donn H. here Feb. 7. He is a homebred for Mary Ann Charlston.

Multiple stakes placed Moment in Dixie added still another stakes placing in the Wintergreen S S at Turfway . She swung 6 wide position and attacked in the stretch, but came up just short. She is a homebred for the Phillips Racing Partnership and has over $388,000 in earnings.
Rough Passage breaks maiden
The aptly named Stormy Atlantic 3 year old colt ROUGH PASSAGE has been knocking on the door and broke his maiden today wire to wire at Los Alamitos. He dueled gamely on the rail to the finish. He is owned by Red Castle Farms and was bred by R S Evans. He has already earned over $63,000.

West Point’s MSW AWESOME VISION waited off the pace and then swung 4 wide to circle the leaders, hit the front and win by 6 lengths in an allowance race at Aqueduct. He was bred by Kaz Hill Farm & Adena Springs. He has won 8 times and earned over $430,000 for his connections.
Morning Cigar Win
MORNING CIGAR owned by Christopher Elser and bred by Elser Farm won for the second time in a row at PARX, this time in allowance company. He ran in the second flight, then took the lead. relinquished it and fought back to get his nose on the line to win. He has earned over $175,000.
“Shoot for Second Chances” Sporting Clays Charity Tournament
Over 50 shooters participated in the “Shoot for Second Chances” Sporting Clays Charity Tournament at former classic winning trainer Joe Cantey’s Hermitage Farm Shooting Sports on Friday, November 14 in Camden, South Carolina. The event was sponsored by Kip Elser’s Kirkwood Stables and West Point Thoroughbreds and benefitted retired racehorses of the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation of South Carolina.
“This event more than doubled in size from last year and we look forward to continuing the tradition of shooting the day before the Colonial Cup,” said South Carolina TRF president William Cox Jr. “Through our Second Chances program at the Wateree River Correctional Institute, we offer a place of hope and renewal for retired Thoroughbred horses and prison inmates. Currently 45 horses are cared for through the program, and we hope to expand in the years to come.”
“Thank you to everyone who worked together to make this event a success,” said Kip Elser. “We had a fun afternoon all in support of retired horses here in South Carolina. I appreciate the support not only from the folks here in Camden, but the Lexington horse community as well.”

I wholeheartedly endorse Ciaran Dunne’s position as published yesterday in the TDN. First and foremost, this initiative will serve to better protect the horses entrusted to our care. Protecting our horses is in the best interest of buyers, sellers and the industry as a whole. Though I am not selling at the OBS April Sale, Kirkwood Stables’ horses will not be urged in any way to gallop out beyond the wire in their breezes at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale and will be eased up around the turn. I encourage others to join this important initiative.
