A first-out, determined head winner July 30 at Delaware, Kenny Had a Notion didn’t fare as well when seen again in the Sept. 26 First State Dash S. even after working three straight bullets over Laurel’s main track. He caught a sloppy Delaware surface that day, got bumped, and threw in the towel to finish sixth. Redemption was sweet when switched to the turf for an impressive win in the Jamestown S. Kenny Had a Notion broke on top, but let Cool Enough (Tamarkuz) on his outside take command. Hounding that one through a first quarter of :22.41, the bay moved to the outside himself, tackled Cool Enough coming off the turn as the half slipped by in :45.37, then romped home much the best.

Five-time winner Darting’s last reported foal is a now-yearling colt by Divining Rod, who sold at this week’s Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale for $20,000 to Julie Davies. Darting’s granddam is a graded stakes-producing mare by Ack Ack, notable as not too many mares by the 1971 Horse of the Year and late Claiborne stallion are remain close up in pedigrees.

Madone | Benoit

Kaleem Shah’s Madone (f, 2, Vancouver {Aus}-Indian Love Call, by Cherokee Run) made it a perfect three-for-three with a late-charging victory in the Surfer Girl S. at Santa Anita Sunday. Made the even-money favorite off of two wins going a mile over the Del Mar lawn, the dark bay filly settled well off a quick pace. She made rapid progress nearing the lane and pounced to the lead at midstretch before gamely holding off Tetragonal (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) who came from last to just miss. The time for the mile was 1:34.83.
Purchased for $125,000 at this year’s OBS March sale, Madone opened her career with a one-length victory over the Del Mar lawn July 31 and she closed late to add the Sept. 6 Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf S. last time out. Lifetime Record: 3-3-0-0. O-Kaleem Shah.
