TOM’S READY, a smart last-to-first winner of Belmont’s GII Woody Stephens S. last summer, rolled a pair of threes in his most recent two trips to the post in the GI Forego S. at Saratoga Aug. 26 and GII Kelso H. at Belmont Sept. 23. Last of nine through hot early splits of :22.05 and :44.79, Tom’s Ready began to wind up on the turn for home. Stallwalkin’ Dude made the first run to gain command in the stretch, but Tom=s Ready was just getting started and came charging on the outside to get the money.

“We want to get him to the [GI] Cigar Mile, try to get him a Grade I win,” Bentley Combs, assistant to winning trainer Dallas Stewart, said. “It’s an iconic race and it would be a great way for him to end his career [before entering stud at Spendthrift Farm in 2018].”
