MGSW TOM’S READY adds to his laurels on Derby Day in the G2- Churchill Downs S
TOM’S READY (More than Ready), winner of the Woody Stephen Stakes (G 2) in June 2016 at Belmont Park, and the Ack Ack S. (G 3) at Churchill that fall, added to his pedigree page on KY Derby Day running a very close third in the G2- Churchill Downs S. At retirement, he will stand at Spendthrift Farm following an agreement with owner GMB Racing to acquire the breeding rights to the son of More Than Ready. He has earned $715,767.

Stakes placed DUVAL adds more black-type
Going on $400,000 in earnings, Duval (Kodiak Kowboy) added black-type with a third in the Lyman S at PARX going 7 furlongs. Duval was consigned by Kirkwood at OBS April 2013 and was initially purchased by Bill & Corinne Heiligbrodt. He is now owned by Ten Strike Racing and trained by Juan Carlos Guerrero. MANITOULIN (Awesome Again–Soaring Softly ) on the Belmont turf last June. Last seen running third Nov. 26 at Aqueduct, the chestnut led early before settling in fourth at the rail through dawdling fractions. Hemmed in at the top of the lane, he was sent through a rail opening inside the three-sixteenths pole and soon kicked clear to score by two lengths. Manitoulin is a half to Much Rejoicing (Distorted Humor), SW, $160,457. His dam, who captured the GI Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf in 1999 en route to Eclipse honors that year.

REASON TO SOAR (Soaring Empire) owned by West Point and trained by George Weaver broke his maiden right off the bat, and then ran third in the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Sophomore Stakes at Tampa Bayin his second lifetime start. Back in NY, he added another third in the New York Stallion Stakes at Aqueduct. He loomed up the outside and then could not hold off closers. He has a win and two stakes placings to his name in 3 lifetime starts.

Reason to Soar (Soaring Empire) owned by West Point Thoroughbreds, won his first start, and jumping into stakes company for his second start in the Ocala Breeders Sales Sophomore S at Tampa Bay, he ran third. He dueled determinedly throughout, but had to settle for the show. Reason to Soar is trained by George Weaver.
NICE DAY RACING FOR KIRKWOOD
For Westpoint Thoroughbreds, Moonlightnmidnight, a Wilburn filly gained black type running third in the Crescent City Oaks at the Fair Grounds. This is her first black-type. She is trained by Dallas Stewart.
At Penn National, GOLD BRAID (Warrior’s Reward) went off the heavy favorite and had no trouble winning an allowance race at a mile and 70 yards. He is owned by Joseph E Besecker.
