Black Martino places at Gulfstream

Kirkwood prepped and consigned 3 year old Two Step Salsa colt, BLACK MARTINO, picked up black type in the Cutler Bay Stakes at Gulfstream going a mile on the turf. He went to the lead and dueled through the stretch, but had to settle for the show position. He is owned by Honors Stable Corp. and was bred by Bailey Bolen. His trainer is Jose Garoffalo.

First Whippoolwill wins at Fair Grounds

FIRST WHIPPOORWILL has made money for multiple owners with 8 wins and a bankroll of $231,739. He is currently owned by Fionn MacCumhal Racing and trained by Joe Sharp. His most recent win was at the Fair Grounds where he tipped outside going a mile on the turf and won by 4 1/2.

Another win for Lord Tyrion

Carl F. Pollard bred three-year-old LORD TYRION won his last race and was claimed. He made quick work of finding the winner’s circle again for his new connections, coming from between horses for the score. He is now owned by Midwest Thoroughbreds, Inc. and trained by  Jamie Ness.

Moment in Dixie continues success

Multiple stakes placed Moment in Dixie added STILL ANOTHER stakes placing, this time in the Lady S at Aqueduct. She is a homebred for the Phillips Racing Partnership and is closing on $400,000 in earnings. On the same day, three year old filly BELLA RANGER won for the second time. She was claimed out of the race and we wish her new connections the best of racing luck.

Defondo and My Sky both break maiden

Three year old gelding DEFONDO, off the favorite, stalked and then swung out three-wide in the lane and zipped clear in the final furlong to break his maiden by 3 1/4 lengths at the Fair Grounds. He is owned by West Point Thoroughbreds, trained by Dallas Stewart and was bred by Mr & Mrs Bertram R Firestone (VA).

On the same day, at Sam Houston, MY SKY waited and then split horses to power to the lead to break his maiden. He drew off to win by 2 lengths. He is owned by Tommie M. Lewis and was bred by R. S. Evans, His trainer is Eric R. Reed.

Kip Elser honored as part of SCTOBA Dinner

Kip Elser was honored at the South Carolina Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association Awards Dinner by receiving the Thoroughbred Charities of America’s Award of Merit for his work with repurposing Thoroughbred race horses and for his efforts as the former president of the South Carolina Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and its Second Chances program at the Wateree River Correctional Institution in Rembert, SC.
