Two year old PURE PRAISE sold by Kirkwood wins 2nd time out

Kirkwood prepared and sold, PURE PRAISE ( Congrats) zipped out of the gate at Churchill  and led through an opening quarter in :22 and change. She was challenged at the top of the stretch, but kept fighting on the inside to score by a length in her second start. She was a $42,000 FT October yearling purchase and brought  $110,000 as a 2 year old at OBSMAR. She has given her owner Bernard G. Schaeffer s a quick return on his purchase.

DEFIANT HONOR wins for Phillips Racing at Belmont

Kirkwood Stables and Phillips Racing are having an exciting June. MANITOULIN won at Belmont in allowance company earlier in the month and today DEFIANT HONOR (Speightstown), a half-sister to Taqarub (Aldebaran), GSW, $256,962; and a full-sister to the late Recepta, GSW & MGISP, $696,700, pressed the pace and then cleared to score quite easily at Belmont – her second win in 4 starts. She broke her maiden last fall in NY, then shipped to California where she ran second in the Jimmy Durante Stakes – Gr. 3 and added graded black-type to her pedigree. With this facile win first race back at 3, she announced that she was very ready to get n her sophomore campaign underway. Trained by James Toner, she has already earned over $111,000.

Defiant Honor is out of a winning daughter of Grade III victress Wings of Grace (Key to the Mint), the dam of Darby Dan’s outstanding 1999 champion grass mare Soaring Softly (Kris S.) and GISW Plenty of Grace (Roberto). SHINKANSEN takes allowance by 11 1/2 lengths

SHINKANSEN (Pure Prize) rated inside and then exploded to an 11 1/2 length win – ridden out going a mile and seventy at Penn Nations. She is trained by Linda L. Albert and owned by Mens Grille Racing. SHINKANSEN was bred by Russell B. Harris, Craig R. Harris & Jeffrey A. Harris and was sold by Kirkwood for $70,000 at Fasig Tipton Timonium in 2015.

AMAZE ME GRACE wins her second in a romp

Four year old Indiana Bred filly AMAZE ME GRACE  (Stormy Atlantic) won her second race with ease wiring the field at Indiana Grand going 1 1/16 on the turf. She won by almost 7 lengths. AMAZE ME GRACE is owned by Edward A. Seltzer, Beverly Anderson & Jamie Corbett. She was bred by  Edward A. Seltzer and is trained by Anthony J. Granitz.

Kirkwood Stables earns the co-bullet 1/4 time of :21 2/5 with hip 220 at Timonium

Kip Elser’s Kirkwood Stables sent out hip 220, a filly by GI Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver to earn the co-bullet quarter-mile time of :21 2/5. The bay, a $90,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearling purchase by Walnut Green, is out of multiple stakes winner Wish It Were (Is It True) and is a halfsister to stakes winner Ancient Rome (Roman Ruler) and stakes placed Little Hitman (Wildcat Heir). “I knew she would be right up with the fastest horses today,” Elser said of the filly. “She’s always been a very nice filly. She’s not a really tall filly, but she’s beautifully balanced and just a very efficient mover.” Elser admitted he’s a big fan of the Timonium track. “These guys do a great job with the track,” he said. ANo matter the weather, this is always a safe surface to work on.”

RED CORVETTE bursts through to take allowance and earn win #2

3 yo RED CORVETTE (Warrior’s Reward)  is owned by Carolyn Friedberg, Carolyn and Jeff T. Larson and was bred by Hunter Valley Farm & Bourque Goldstein Thoroughbreds, LLC. Going a mile on the all weather track at Arlingtin  he was slow off the mark but then burst through to earn the win by over 3 lengths.  He is trained by  Richard R. Scherer.

MGSW TOM’S READY adds to his laurels on Derby Day in the G2- Churchill Downs S

TOM’S READY (More than Ready), winner of the Woody Stephen Stakes (G 2) in June 2016 at Belmont Park, and the Ack Ack S. (G 3) at Churchill that fall,  added to his pedigree page  on KY Derby Day running a very close third in the G2- Churchill Downs S.  At retirement,  he will stand at Spendthrift Farm following an agreement with owner GMB Racing to acquire the breeding rights to the son of More Than Ready. He has earned $715,767.

Stakes placed DUVAL adds more black-type

Going on $400,000 in earnings, Duval (Kodiak Kowboy) added black-type with a third in the Lyman S  at PARX going 7 furlongs.  Duval was consigned by Kirkwood at OBS April 2013 and was initially purchased by Bill & Corinne Heiligbrodt.  He is now owned by Ten Strike Racing and trained by Juan Carlos Guerrero.  He has done well for all his connections. Lifetime: 33 8-6-10.
